Unknown Legend

Unknown Legend was a 20-piece collection of works created for URBN’s Gallery 543 in the Philadelphia Navy Yard. At 78 feet long, and 10 feet tall, this blank wall features rotating artists in URBN’s most highly trafficked building on campus.

This body of work was inspired by the general notion that disconnecting to reconnect is fuel for the soul. During a trip to Death Valley earlier that year, I was blown away by the landscape and the light. I tapped into that inspiration, merged it with my wild imagination, and created a vibrant and dreamlike body of work.

Artist Statement

Unknown Legend is a moment or a series of moments, snapshots of the same view during different points in time, a fleeting feeling easy to return to in a space where you feel whole, the desire to take each step with care and appreciation; fearlessness and gratitude, and the overwhelming sensation of being totally, totally present.

The pieces range in scale from 8 x 12 inches to 4 x 6 feet tall and each wooden panel was built selflessly and seamlessly by my Dad. Each piece was made using acrylic paint, ink, latex paint, and spray paint. These materials offered me the most variety to explore and highlight particular shapes and textures.
